Our longest and hilliest ride yet led to Kuala Lipis, and discovery of a crack in a left crank. Debating ensued with various helpful suggestions from across the globe, we partly wanted to just carry on over hills towards the next biggest town that could possibly help and hope it lasted, but in the end we took the safer option and took a day trip to Kuala Lumpar on a bus to get a part.
On the way home Thomas suddenly had a sinking feeling that it was not going to work…we had measured many things but not determined whether it was a square or diamond tapered crank…
Alas! We had the wrong shape.
So tomorrow we go for another day trip with this little box of tricks, to either find a diamond shaped one, or get a right square to match it.
In the meantime we’ve become temporary residents of Kuala Lipis, enjoying the Friday market a lot, sunshine, Chris the local bike shop owner who keeps patiently and happily taking cranks and pedals on and off for us, and a budget hotel where we get breakfast, and not only that, they have bread and a toaster, so we took the jar of Marmite along this morning like true Brits abroad
